“The Most Exciting Jet Boat Ride”

I have never been on a jet boat before. I actually haven’t spent much time on boats of any kind. Of course, I have seen some of Shotover Jet’s videos and photos but you can make anything look fun and adventurous if you like, right? That’s the reason I decided to try it for myself and see what all the fuss is about.

The Shotover Jet shuttle bus picked us up from the centre of Queenstown and drove us for about 10 minutes to the Shotover Jet Base. Everybody got their waterproof jackets, life-vests and sunglasses on and let our driver ‘AJ’ push down hard on the throttle.

From the moment we took off it was truly unbelievable. High speeds, incredible acceleration, fast flowing glacial fed waters, rocks so close you could touch them and constant 360° spins. The experience is one thing but the added bonus of the stunning canyon system within the Shotover River is something else completely.

Water flushing all over our heads, people screaming with utter enjoyment on this once in a lifetime adventure. After half an hour of adrenaline fueled action, every single one of us could not contain the huge smiles on our faces, reflected beautifully in the high definition photo and video package on offer afterwards.

My verdict: It looks fun on the videos and pictures but it is ten times the excitement doing it for real! The footage I captured with my GoPro along with the material provided by the company themselves will provide memories to last a lifetime.
